Wildlife, Planned Properly

A tiger is never promised. A good plan improves the odds.

India has some of the best wildlife viewing in Asia, and Rajasthan puts it within reach of the Golden Triangle. Ranthambore, Sariska and Bharatpur sit within a few hours of Delhi and Jaipur, with fort ruins, lakes and dry forest as a backdrop.

We plan safaris around the season, the zones and the light, with your own luxury car and driver, naturalists who know the parks, and honest expectations. Tigers are wild, and no one can promise a sighting. More safaris improve your chances, and we advise on how many to take.

"The forest rewards patience, and a guide who knows when to wait."

Planning

Where is the best place to see tigers in India?

+

Several parks offer a good chance. Ranthambore in Rajasthan is the most accessible from Delhi and Jaipur and is known for open terrain and fort scenery. Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Corbett are alternatives. No park can guarantee a sighting.

Can I see a tiger on a short trip?

+

Possibly, with luck. A two-day trip to Ranthambore includes two safaris, which improves your chances, though tigers are wild and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Can I combine a tiger safari with the Golden Triangle?

+

Yes. Ranthambore is about 180 km (110 miles) from Jaipur. See our Golden Triangle with Ranthambore journey.

What is the best time for a tiger safari in India?

+

Most parks are open from about October to June and close for the monsoon. Winter is cooler, with thicker cover. March to June is hot, but many guides consider it the best time for sightings, because animals gather at water.

Are the parks open all year?

+

No. Ranthambore, Sariska and most reserves close during the monsoon, usually from about July to September. Corbett has some zones open for part of the year, and we advise on current rules.

How far ahead should I book?

+

As early as you can. Safari seats are limited and allotted by zone and date, and the most popular dates sell out, so we book as soon as your dates are confirmed.

Is it a jeep or a canter?

+

We arrange a private jeep with a naturalist, subject to zone and availability. A canter is a larger shared vehicle, which we do not use unless you ask.

Is this suitable for children?

+

Yes, with calm temperaments, because silence matters on safari. Tell us the ages and we will advise on the best vehicle, zone and timing.

What should I wear?

+

Neutral colours, layers for cold mornings, a hat and sunscreen. Avoid bright colours and perfume.

Can the itinerary be customised?

+

Completely. The journeys here are starting points. Tell us your dates, interests and pace, and we will shape the journey around you.

How do I book?

+

Send your dates through the enquiry form. A Travelage specialist will reply with a tailored proposal within 24 hours.
