Overview

The Length Most First-Timers Choose

If we had to pick one Golden Triangle for a first visit, it would be this. Four days lets Delhi, Agra and Jaipur each have a proper turn without a week-long commitment. You begin with an afternoon in Delhi’s Mughal and imperial quarter, spend a day at the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, then give Jaipur a clear morning before the drive home.

Nothing is stretched, and nothing is dropped without a reason. The road legs are each under six hours and each includes a stop with a purpose, and the Taj Mahal is timed for the afternoon light that follows the morning drive from Delhi.

Travellers who want a slower rhythm usually move to five or six days; those who want to see the Taj at dawn look at the seven day plan, which has two nights in Agra.

Highlights
✦
Humayun's Tomb and Lutyens' Delhi on day one
✦
The Taj Mahal timed for afternoon light
✦
Fatehpur Sikri, with the Abhaneri stepwell if time allows
✦
Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, with the City Palace
✦
One driver, a guide in each city
✦
A flagship length that suits most first visits

Day by Day

Your Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi, Mughal and imperial

Overnight: Delhi
+

After your arrival and a rest, a licensed guide takes you to Humayun’s Tomb, the garden tomb that inspired the Taj, then along the Rajpath-style avenues of Lutyens’ Delhi to India Gate. If your flight lands late, we shift this half-day to the morning of day two.

Day 2

The road to Agra and the Taj

Overnight: Agra
+

Drive about 230 km (145 miles) along the expressway to Agra, three and a half to four hours. After lunch, step into the Taj Mahal and then Agra Fort with your guide. The evening can include the river view at sunset and a short visit to a marble inlay workshop, if you wish.

Day 3

Fatehpur Sikri, a stepwell and Jaipur

Overnight: Jaipur
+

Leave after breakfast and stop at Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s red sandstone capital, about 40 km (25 miles) from Agra. If time allows we also stop at Abhaneri, where the Chand Baori stepwell drops in rows of symmetrical stairs. Arrive in Jaipur, about 240 km (150 miles) from Agra, for a restful evening.

Day 4

Amber Fort, City Palace, then Delhi

Ends: Delhi
+

In the morning, go up to Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, tour the City Palace, and photograph Hawa Mahal from the street. Then drive about 280 km (175 miles) to Delhi, five to six hours. Plan flights from the late evening.

What Makes the Journey Easy

The Golden Triangle is simple to plan and easy to get wrong. These are the details we handle for you.

A balanced rhythm

One main sight per day

Each day has one anchor, such as the Taj Mahal or Amber Fort, with lighter stops around it, so you finish the trip rested enough to enjoy it.

Delhi without the crowds of a full day

A focused afternoon

We choose Humayun’s Tomb and Lutyens’ Delhi because they are calm and photogenic, and fit between a flight and dinner.

Stops that earn the time

Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri

The long drive to Jaipur includes a Mughal capital and an ancient stepwell, so the road itself becomes part of the trip.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Is four days the best length for a first Golden Triangle?

+

For most travellers, yes. It covers Delhi, Agra and Jaipur’s main sights at a comfortable pace. Longer plans suit those who want a full Delhi day or a slower finish.

What makes this different from the three day tour?

+

Day one in Delhi. The three day tour starts with the drive to Agra; this plan opens with Humayun’s Tomb and Lutyens’ Delhi.

Do we see the Taj Mahal at sunrise on this tour?

+

No. It is visited in the afternoon light on day two. A sunrise visit needs a night in Agra before the visit, which is why the seven day plan includes two nights there.

What is the Abhaneri stepwell?

+

Chand Baori at Abhaneri is a deep ancient stepwell with thousands of steps in a geometric pattern. It lies off the Agra to Jaipur road, and we add it when your timing allows.

Can we use a late flight home on day four?

+

Yes. Day four ends with the drive to Delhi in the afternoon, so flights from the late evening work best.

Is a vegetarian or other diet easy to arrange?

+

Yes. Tell us in advance and we brief hotels and restaurants. Most places on the route cater well.

Can I extend to Udaipur or Varanasi afterwards?

+

Yes. Those add-ons start from Jaipur or Delhi, and we can build them into a longer proposal.

How do I book?
