Overview

Five Days, With Room to Wander in Jaipur

The five day plan is for people who like to arrive somewhere and still have a free hour. It keeps the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort on day two, and then does something the shorter tours cannot: two nights in Jaipur, so the Pink City is a morning of palaces and an afternoon of your own.

That second Jaipur day is where couples and families usually spend the difference. Some visit a block-printing workshop, some browse the bazaars for textiles and silver, some simply have a long, slow meal. None of it is fixed, which is the point.

Delhi is kept light on day one for arrival and rest. If you want a full day there, look at the six day plan; if you want the Taj at sunrise, look at seven.

✦

Day by Day

Your Itinerary

Day 1

Land in Delhi and settle in

Overnight: Delhi
+

Your driver meets you at arrivals and takes you to the hotel. If you feel like moving, an easy evening drive passes India Gate and the government avenues, and you can eat somewhere close. Otherwise, rest. The sightseeing starts tomorrow.

Day 2

Agra: the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort

Overnight: Agra
+

The expressway takes about three and a half to four hours for the 230 km (145 miles) to Agra. The Taj Mahal comes in the afternoon, when the light is soft and the morning visitors have gone, and Agra Fort follows, with views back along the river.

Day 3

On the road to the Pink City

Overnight: Jaipur
+

About 240 km (150 miles) and five to six hours bring you to Jaipur. Fatehpur Sikri is the stop on the way, a sandstone ghost city of courtyards and halls that Akbar built and left. Arrive in the late afternoon, with an easy evening.

Day 4

A full day in Jaipur

Overnight: Jaipur
+

Begin at Amber Fort, climbing by jeep or on foot, then the City Palace and the observatory at Jantar Mantar. After lunch the day is yours: bazaars, a block-printing workshop, a rooftop at sunset, or a long afternoon at the hotel. We suggest, you choose.

Day 5

Return to Delhi

Ends: Delhi
+

Drive about 280 km (175 miles) to Delhi in five to six hours, with a break on the way, and transfer to the airport or your hotel. Choose flights from the evening onwards.

What Makes the Journey Easy

The Golden Triangle is simple to plan and easy to get wrong. These are the details we handle for you.

A second night in Jaipur

Time that is not scheduled

The extra night means Jaipur is not squeezed into one morning. The afternoon is open for markets, workshops, or rest.

A calm first day

Arrival and recovery

Day one is kept light so that jet lag does not dull the Taj Mahal the next day.

Pace that suits families

Fewer transfers per day

With only one long drive per day, children and older travellers can rest between sights without rushing.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Why choose five days over four?

+

The fifth day gives Jaipur a second night and a free afternoon, which turns the end of the trip from a rush into a pleasure.

How is this different from the six day tour?

+

The six day plan adds a full sightseeing day in Delhi. Here, day one is arrival and rest, and the extra time goes to Jaipur.

What can we do with the free afternoon in Jaipur?

+

Visit a block-printing workshop, shop the bazaars, take a cooking class, or rest. We can book these in advance.

Do I see Delhi's main sights?

+

Only lightly. If Delhi matters, add a day, or book a separate Old and New Delhi tour.

Is five days too long for a short holiday?

+

Five days is a popular middle length, long enough to see the main sights and short enough to fit in a week with flights.

Can we arrive in Delhi at night?

+

Yes. Day one has no fixed plans, so a late arrival is fine.

Do you recommend elephant rides at Amber Fort?

+

No. We use jeeps or the walking route up to the fort.

How soon will I hear back?

+

Within 24 hours of your enquiry, with a tailored proposal.
