Overview

All of Rajasthan, in Twelve Days

This is Rajasthan with nothing left out: pink Jaipur, holy Pushkar, the red fort of Bikaner, golden Jaisalmer on the edge of the Thar desert, blue Jodhpur and the lake city of Udaipur. Twelve days is long enough to include Bikaner and a full two nights in Jaisalmer, which shorter routes skip.

The distances are large, so the route is built as a loop with no backtracking: Delhi, Jaipur, Pushkar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur. The longest drives are about six hours, each broken with stops.

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Is 12 days enough for all of Rajasthan?

+

Yes, for the main circuit, including Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Shorter routes usually skip one or both.

What is the best order for Rajasthan?

+

A loop that avoids backtracking works best: Jaipur, Pushkar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur, which is the order here.

How long are the drives?

+

The longest are Bikaner to Jaisalmer (about five to six hours) and Pushkar to Bikaner (about five hours). The table on this page lists every leg.

Is Jaisalmer worth the distance?

+

Yes, if you have the days. The golden fort is still lived in, and a camel ride at sunset on the dunes is a highlight for many travellers.

What is the best time to visit Rajasthan?

+

October to March is the most comfortable. April to June is very hot, and July to September is monsoon, green and quiet.

Can I shorten it?

+

Yes. Our 8 Days Royal Rajasthan or 10 Days Rajasthan Heritage tours cover fewer places.

Is the driving between cities tiring?

+

Rajasthan is big, so some days involve four to six hours on the road. We keep the longest legs to one a day, build in stops at places worth stopping, and use a luxury air-conditioned car with a driver who knows the roads. The route table on this page shows every leg.

Do you recommend elephant rides at Amber Fort?

+

No. We do not include elephant rides. You go up to Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, and your guide takes you through the palace at a calm pace.
