Mumbai is India’s busiest city: colonial architecture, Art Deco seafront, markets, street food and the energy of a place that never slows. Goa, a short flight south, is the opposite: red-roofed Portuguese churches, quiet lanes and long beaches. Together they make a balanced week.
The two are about 590 km (365 miles) apart by road, a long day, so we fly (about an hour and a quarter, flight not included). Goa’s best weather is from November to February, and many beach shacks close during the monsoon from about June to September.
