Overview

The Best of Rajasthan in One Week, Without the Rush

This is Rajasthan’s classic route, planned so the long drives do not eat the journey. You begin in Delhi, spend two nights in Jaipur, cross through Pushkar to Jodhpur, and finish with two nights on the lakes of Udaipur.

Each leg is planned with the road in mind. The longest day, Jodhpur to Udaipur, is broken at Ranakpur, whose carved Jain temples open to visitors from about midday, so the stop falls at exactly the right hour. You have one driver for the whole journey and a licensed local guide in each city.

If you want to slow down, add a night in Jodhpur or Udaipur. If you want the desert, swap Udaipur for Jaisalmer. Tell us and we will reshape the route.

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

How many days do I need for Rajasthan?

+

Seven days covers Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur and Udaipur at a comfortable pace. Five days is possible but hurried, and ten days lets you add Jaisalmer or Ranthambore.

What is the best time to visit Rajasthan?

+

October to March is the most comfortable. April to June is very hot, and July to September is monsoon, green and quiet. December and January mornings and desert nights are cold.

How far apart are the cities?

+

Delhi to Jaipur is about 280 km (175 miles), Jaipur to Pushkar about 145 km (90 miles), Pushkar to Jodhpur about 190 km (120 miles), and Jodhpur to Udaipur about 250 km (155 miles) with a stop at Ranakpur. The table on this page lists each leg.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guides. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

Can I swap Udaipur for Jaisalmer?

+

Yes. See our 6 day Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer tour, or ask us to adapt this route to include the desert.

How do I book?

+

Send your dates through the form on this page. A Travelage specialist will reply with a tailored proposal within 24 hours.

Is the driving between cities tiring?

+

Rajasthan is big, so some days involve four to six hours on the road. We keep the longest legs to one a day, build in stops at places worth stopping, and use a luxury air-conditioned car with a driver who knows the roads. The route table on this page shows every leg.

Do you recommend elephant rides at Amber Fort?

+

No. We do not include elephant rides. You go up to Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, and your guide takes you through the palace at a calm pace.

Is this suitable for children and older travellers?

+

Yes, with the right pace. Forts involve steps and walking, so tell us about young children or mobility needs and we will adjust the stops, timing and vehicle.

What should I wear?

+

Light cotton in the warmer months and layers from November to February, when mornings and desert nights are cold. Comfortable shoes for the forts, and shoulders and knees covered at temples.
