Overview

Two Days, and Time to Look Properly

A same-day trip to Agra is possible, but it spends most of the day on the road. Two days changes that. You reach Agra with time to spare, see the Taj Mahal in the afternoon light, sleep in the city, and use the second morning for Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s abandoned red sandstone capital, about 40 km (25 miles) west of Agra.

It is the journey we suggest when you want more than a day trip but cannot give a full Golden Triangle. If your priority is the Taj Mahal at first light, see our sunrise Taj Mahal tour instead, which is built around that.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Is 2 days enough for Agra?

+

Yes. Two days lets you see the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Itimad-ud-Daulah and Fatehpur Sikri without a rushed day on the road. A one-day trip covers the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort but little else.

What is the difference between this and the sunrise Taj Mahal tour?

+

This journey is built around the afternoon light at the Taj Mahal and adds Fatehpur Sikri on the second day. The sunrise tour is built around being at the Taj Mahal at first light.

How far is Fatehpur Sikri from Agra?

+

About 40 km (25 miles), roughly an hour by road. It is on the way to Jaipur, so it also works as a stop on a longer journey.

Is the Taj Mahal open every day?

+

The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. We plan this journey for any other day, or reorder the days so Fatehpur Sikri falls on the Friday.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guide. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

Can I continue to Jaipur instead of returning to Delhi?

+

Yes. Fatehpur Sikri is on the road to Jaipur, so we can end the journey there. See our Golden Triangle journeys or ask us to adapt this one.

Is this suitable for children and older travellers?

+

Yes, with the right pace. The Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri involve walking and some steps, so tell us about young children or mobility needs and we will adjust the timing and stops.

What should I carry, and what is not allowed at the Taj Mahal?

+

Keep your passport or a clear copy with you. Large bags, food, tripods, drones and tobacco are not allowed inside, while small bags and cameras are fine. Your guide explains the rules on the day.

What time will you pick me up?

+

Usually between 7:00 and 9:00 am on day one, depending on where you stay. We confirm the exact time the day before.

How do I book?

+

Send your dates through the form on this page. A Travelage specialist will reply with a tailored proposal within 24 hours.

Good to know

Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays

The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays, so we plan Agra on any other day of the week. Please tell us your dates early. Fatehpur Sikri is open on Fridays, so tell us your dates and we will order the days to suit.

Best time to go

October to March is the most comfortable. December and January mornings can be foggy, which we plan around. April to June is hot, so we start early. July to September is monsoon: green and quiet.
