The Golden Triangle shows you the monuments of Mughal and Rajput India. Haridwar and Rishikesh show you where the Ganges leaves the Himalayan foothills: pilgrimage ghats, evening fire ceremonies, ashrams, yoga and a river that runs clear and fast. Together they make a trip with real contrast.
The route runs Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and back to Delhi, then drives north to Haridwar and Rishikesh, about 215 km (135 miles) from Delhi. Haridwar and Rishikesh are holy towns, so meat and alcohol are not served in the main areas, and visitors dress modestly and remove shoes at temples.
Rishikesh is also the centre of yoga in India. If you would like a class, a meditation session or a day of rafting, tell us. Rafting is seasonal and closes in the monsoon.
