Overview

One Day, One Wonder, Done Properly

Agra is roughly 200 to 230 km (125 to 145 miles) from Delhi, a drive of about three to four hours on the Yamuna Expressway. With an early start it is entirely possible to see the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in a single day and be back in Delhi for dinner.

The day works because it is planned, not rushed. You travel in your own luxury air-conditioned car with a driver who knows the road, meet a licensed guide in Agra, and visit in an order that avoids the worst of the queues and the midday heat.

If you would rather not rush, the same route works well as an overnight stay in Agra. Ask us and we will adjust it.

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Can I really see the Taj Mahal in one day from Delhi?

+

Yes. Agra is roughly 200 to 230 km (125 to 145 miles) from Delhi, and with an early start you can visit the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort and return to Delhi the same evening. It is a long day, which is why we plan the timing carefully.

How long is the drive from Delhi to Agra?

+

Usually three to four hours each way on the Yamuna Expressway, depending on traffic and where in Delhi you start. We build in a comfort stop.

Is the Taj Mahal open every day?

+

The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. We plan this journey for any other day of the week.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guide. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

Should I choose the car or the train?

+

The car gives you door-to-door comfort and flexibility. The train is faster on the rails but fixed in its timings. We offer both and can advise on which suits your dates.

Can I stay overnight in Agra instead?

+

Yes. An overnight stay lets you see the Taj at sunrise, which many guests prefer. See our sunrise Taj Mahal tour, or ask us to adapt this journey.

How do I book?

+

Send your dates through the form on this page. A Travelage specialist will reply with a tailored proposal within 24 hours.

What should I carry, and what is not allowed at the Taj Mahal?

+

Keep your passport or a clear copy with you. Large bags, food, tripods, drones and tobacco are not allowed inside, while small bags and cameras are fine. Rules can change, so your guide briefs you on the day.

Can I take photographs inside the Taj Mahal?

+

Photography is welcome in the gardens and on the platform, and your guide will help you find the best spots. Photography is not allowed inside the main mausoleum chamber.

Is this suitable for children and older travellers?

+

Yes, with the right pace. The Taj Mahal involves walking and some steps, so tell us about young children or any mobility needs and we will adjust the timing, stops and vehicle.

What time will you pick me up?

+

Usually between 5:30 and 7:00 am, depending on where you stay and what you want to see. We confirm the exact time the day before.
