Overview

The Lake City, Slowly

Udaipur is the Rajasthan city that makes people plan a return trip. White palaces rise from Lake Pichola, hills close the horizon on every side, and the old city is a tangle of havelis, lanes and rooftop restaurants. It is a city for lingering rather than ticking off.

This four-day journey keeps Udaipur at its centre. You take two days for the City Palace, the old city and the lakes, then spend a day outside it: Kumbhalgarh, the fort with one of the longest walls in the world, and the marble Jain temples of Ranakpur. It is an easy fit for a honeymoon, an anniversary or a quiet few days between busier cities.

If you want a private dinner, a lake-view room or a cooking class, tell us. We arrange it quietly.

Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

How many days do I need in Udaipur?

+

Two full days for the city and the lakes, plus a third for Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur. Three nights is enough for a good visit, and four gives you a slower pace.

What is the best time to visit Udaipur?

+

October to March is the most comfortable. After the monsoon in September and October the lakes are at their fullest. April to June is very hot.

Is Udaipur good for a honeymoon?

+

Yes, it is one of the most popular honeymoon cities in India: lake views, rooftop dinners and a slow pace. Tell us your plans and we will arrange quiet touches.

What is Kumbhalgarh?

+

A 15th-century hill fort about 85 km (55 miles) from Udaipur with a wall of about 36 km (22 miles), one of the longest in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

Is the lake boat ride always available?

+

Not always. The boat does not run when water levels are very low or in rough weather, and we confirm on the day.

Can I add Jodhpur or Jaipur?

+

Yes. See our 4 Days Jaipur Udaipur or 7 Days Rajasthan Tours, or tell us your dates and we will adapt the route.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guides. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

How do I book?

+

Send your dates through the form on this page. A Travelage specialist will reply with a tailored proposal within 24 hours.

Is the driving between cities tiring?

+

Rajasthan is big, so some days involve four to six hours on the road. We keep the longest legs to one a day, build in stops at places worth stopping, and use a luxury air-conditioned car with a driver who knows the roads. The route table on this page shows every leg.

Good to know

Timing around the sights

Ranakpur’s Jain temples are open to visitors from about midday, and temple rules may change. The boat ride runs only when the lake allows. Your guide confirms timings on the day.

Best time to go

October to March is the most comfortable. April to June is very hot, so days start early. July to September is monsoon: green and quiet. Mornings and desert nights are cold from December to January. Udaipur’s lakes are at their fullest after the monsoon.

Honeymoons and anniversaries

Tell us if you are celebrating, and we will arrange a rooftop dinner, flowers or a private boat. We do it quietly, without a fuss.
