Overview

One Night in Agra, and the Taj at Both Ends of the Day

A same-day Taj tour is a long day: a drive of seven to eight hours with a visit squeezed in the middle. One night in Agra changes this. You arrive at a civilised hour, see Agra Fort and the sunset over the Taj from Mehtab Bagh, then enter the Taj Mahal at sunrise, when it is cool, quiet and softly lit.

On the way back to Delhi we stop at Fatehpur Sikri. If you have more time, see our Sunrise Taj Mahal Tour from Delhi, or add Jaipur with a Golden Triangle tour.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Is it worth staying overnight in Agra?

+

Yes. You avoid a very long single day, see the Taj at sunrise when it is quietest, and have time for Mehtab Bagh and Fatehpur Sikri.

What is Mehtab Bagh?

+

A garden across the Yamuna river from the Taj Mahal with a fine view of it, especially at sunset.

Is the Taj Mahal open at sunrise?

+

Yes, it opens at about sunrise, and the entry rules and timings are set by the authorities, so we confirm them before your visit.

What if the Taj is closed?

+

It is closed on Fridays, so we plan your visit on another day.

How is this different from the Sunrise Taj Mahal Tour?

+

That tour is designed around the sunrise visit, with a night in Agra. This one adds a sunset view from Mehtab Bagh and a stop at Fatehpur Sikri on the way back.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guides. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

How do I book?

Good to know

Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays

The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays, so we plan Agra on any other day of the week. Please tell us your dates early. Sunset at Mehtab Bagh may still be possible on a Friday, but you could not visit the Taj itself, so we choose another day.

Sunrise visit

The Taj Mahal opens at about sunrise, and ticket rules and entry times are set by the authorities, so we confirm them before you arrive. Winter fog can hide the view, and no one can promise a clear sunrise.

Best time to go

October to March is the most comfortable, with clear skies and mild days. December and January mornings can be cold and foggy. April to June is very hot, and July to September is monsoon, green and quiet.
