Everything You Need to Know, at a Glance

Short answer: yes, you can add a tiger safari to the Golden Triangle. See Delhi, Agra and Jaipur by car, then drive about 180 km (110 miles) to Ranthambore for two safaris in a private jeep, and return to Delhi. Tigers are wild, so no sighting can be guaranteed, but two drives give you a fair chance. The park is closed from about July to September.

Overview

The Golden Triangle, with a Chance to See a Tiger

Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan is one of the best places in India to look for wild tigers, and it has a setting like nowhere else: forest and lakes around a 10th-century fort. Adding it to the Golden Triangle takes the trip from monuments to wildlife in a single journey.

The park is about 180 km (110 miles) from Jaipur. We plan two safaris, one in the afternoon you arrive and one the next morning, because a single drive can miss them. Tigers are wild animals, and no operator can promise a sighting. Two drives give you a fair chance, and the park and its other wildlife are worth the visit regardless.

Safari seats in the park are limited and booked ahead, so tell us your dates early.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Can I see a tiger at Ranthambore?

+

Possibly. Ranthambore is one of the better places in India to see wild tigers, but they are wild animals and no operator can guarantee a sighting. We plan two safaris to improve your chances.

When is the best time for a tiger safari at Ranthambore?

+

October to April is open to visitors. Summer (March to May) is hot but animals gather at water, which many guides consider the best time for sightings. Winter is cooler, with thicker cover. The park is closed in the monsoon.

How far is Ranthambore from Jaipur?

+

About 180 km (110 miles), roughly three and a half to four hours by road.

How far is Ranthambore from Delhi?

+

About 380 km (235 miles), roughly seven to eight hours by road with stops. A train from Sawai Madhopur to Delhi is an alternative, and we can advise.

What type of safari is it?

+

We arrange safaris in a private jeep with a naturalist, subject to zone and availability. Park rules decide the details, and we confirm them when we book.

What should I wear on safari?

+

Neutral colours, layers for cold mornings, a hat and sunscreen. Avoid bright colours and perfume. Your naturalist gives more advice.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guides. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

Is the Taj Mahal open every day?

+

The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. We plan Agra on any other day, so please share your dates early.

Do you recommend elephant rides at Amber Fort?

+

No. We do not include elephant rides. You go up to Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, and your guide takes you through the palace at a calm pace.

Good to know

Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays

The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays, so we plan Agra on any other day of the week. Please tell us your dates early.

Safari season

The park is closed during the monsoon, usually from about July to September, and reopens around October. Winter mornings are cold in an open jeep, so pack layers. Park rules and zone allocations change, and we confirm them when we book.

Best time to go

October to April is the best time for the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore. March to May is hot, but tigers come to the waterholes and are easier to spot. Winter is colder and the foliage is thicker.
