Overview

Six Days, and a Whole Day for Delhi

Delhi deserves more than a pit stop, and the six day plan gives it a full day. You spend your first full morning in Old Delhi, with its great mosque, the lanes of Chandni Chowk and the Red Fort, and your afternoon among the gardens and monuments of New Delhi, from Humayun’s Tomb to Qutub Minar.

After two nights in the capital, you head to Agra for the Taj Mahal, then Jaipur for two nights, which means the route does not rush its second half either. It is the plan we suggest when travellers tell us they love cities, food and history more than beaches or open landscapes.

If Delhi is a stop you have already done, the five day plan is lighter. If you want the Taj at sunrise as well, our seven day plan adds a second night in Agra.

Day by Day

Your Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive and rest in Delhi

Overnight: Delhi
+

You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Take the evening as it comes: dinner nearby, or an early night before a big day tomorrow.

Day 2

Delhi, old and new

Overnight: Delhi
+

In the morning, a guide leads you into Old Delhi: Jama Masjid, a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, and the Red Fort. After lunch, Humayun’s Tomb, the tall minaret of Qutub Minar and India Gate. The Red Fort is closed on Mondays, so on those days we swap in another sight.

Day 3

Delhi to Agra and the Taj Mahal

Overnight: Agra
+

The 230 km (145 miles) drive takes three and a half to four hours. By the afternoon, you are at the Taj Mahal, followed by Agra Fort and a sunset view across the Yamuna if time allows.

Day 4

Agra to Jaipur by way of Fatehpur Sikri

Overnight: Jaipur
+

About 240 km (150 miles) to Jaipur, five to six hours, with an hour among the red sandstone halls of Fatehpur Sikri on the way. Arrive in the Pink City by late afternoon.

Day 5

Jaipur: fort, palace, observatory

Overnight: Jaipur
+

Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and a photo stop at Hawa Mahal. The afternoon is for the bazaars or a quiet rest.

Day 6

The last road to Delhi

Ends: Delhi
+

The 280 km (175 miles) return takes five to six hours, with a stop on the way. You are dropped at the airport or hotel in the evening.

What Makes the Journey Easy

The Golden Triangle is simple to plan and easy to get wrong. These are the details we handle for you.

Delhi with space to see it

Two nights in the capital

A full day lets us pair Old Delhi’s lanes with New Delhi’s calm, instead of racing across both in a couple of hours.

Food and street life

Chandni Chowk with a guide

The Old Delhi walk and rickshaw ride is the best way to see the markets, and a guide helps you eat well without worry.

A route that slows down in Jaipur

Two nights, no rush

After the Delhi day, the rest of the route keeps a gentle rhythm, including a full Jaipur day.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

What makes the six day tour different from the five day tour?

+

It adds a full day of guided sightseeing in Old and New Delhi, with a second night in the capital.

What do we see on the Delhi day?

+

In the morning: Jama Masjid, a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, and the Red Fort. In the afternoon: Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and India Gate.

Is the Red Fort open every day?

+

It is closed on Mondays. If your Delhi day falls on a Monday we substitute another site, so tell us your dates.

Is the rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk safe?

+

Yes, when done with a guide. It is a short, slow ride through crowded lanes, and your guide stays with you.

Can I try street food in Old Delhi?

+

Yes, with a guide’s help. We suggest popular stalls and busy restaurants, and you decide what to try.

Is six days too much time in the car?

+

The road legs are the same as the shorter plans, and the extra day is spent in Delhi, so the share of time in the car actually falls.

Can we add Varanasi or Udaipur at the end?

+

Yes. We can build either extension into a longer plan on request.

How do I request this tour?

+

Send your dates through the form here. A specialist replies within 24 hours.

Taj Mahal and Fridays

The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays, so we plan Agra on any other day of the week. Please tell us your dates early.

Eating in Old Delhi
