Overview

The Golden Triangle, with a Holy Town

Pushkar is one of the oldest towns in India, built around a sacred lake and one of the few temples dedicated to Brahma. It is a small, calm contrast to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Adding it to the Golden Triangle takes only an extra day.

The route runs one way, ending with the drive from Pushkar to Jaipur airport, about 145 km (90 miles), so you do not retrace the road. Pushkar is a holy town, so meat, eggs and alcohol are not sold in the centre.

Wow… service at its best!

“We actually did 14 days which included a trip to Varanasi, then the Golden Triangle & out to Jaisalmer. Every step of the way we were accompanied by Bobby. Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

About This Journey

Can I add Pushkar to the Golden Triangle?

+

Yes. Pushkar is about 145 km (90 miles) from Jaipur, so it adds one night and a short drive.

What is Pushkar known for?

+

A sacred lake with bathing ghats, one of the few Brahma temples in the world, and a lively bazaar. It also hosts a large camel fair in November.

Why does the tour end in Jaipur?

Driving back to Delhi would take eight hours. Jaipur has an airport and train links.

Is alcohol served in Pushkar?

+

Not in the centre. Meat, eggs and alcohol are not sold within the holy area.

When is the Pushkar camel fair?

+

Usually in November, around the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik. Dates change yearly, hotels fill early, and we advise if you want to go.

Is this tour private?

+

Yes. You have your own luxury car, driver and licensed guides. Nothing is shared with other travellers.

Good to know

Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays

The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays, so we plan Agra on any other day of the week. Please tell us your dates early.

Pushkar etiquette

Pushkar is a holy town. Meat, eggs and alcohol are not sold in the centre, and shoes come off at the ghats. Priests may offer a ceremony and ask for a donation, and you may decline politely.

Best time to go

October to March is the most comfortable, with clear skies and mild days. December and January mornings can be cold and foggy. April to June is very hot, and July to September is monsoon, green and quiet.
