Overview

Rajasthan Seen from the Village

Most of Rajasthan’s life happens outside the forts: in villages where families still print cloth by hand, herd camels and goats, throw pots and cook over wood fires. This journey sets aside time for them, with hosts we know, while still passing Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur.

We keep village visits small, paid properly and respectful. Nobody is put on show: you join a craft, share a meal and ask questions through your guide. Tell us if you want to be more or less hands-on.

Our Driver & coach was super, but focus on detail and ensuring that the safety & wellbeing of individual travellers was met, really put the trip at an all time high!”

Questions

About This Journey

Cannot find your answer? Write to us and a specialist will reply personally.

Is this tour suitable for children?

+

Yes. Block printing, pottery and village walks suit children well. Tell us their ages and we will adjust.

What is a village stay like?

+

A simple heritage property in a small village, with clean rooms, home-style food and walks at sunset. It is more rural than the city hotels.

Is it respectful to visit villages?

+

Yes, if visits are small, hosted and paid, and if you ask before taking photos. We work with families who want visitors.

Who are the Bishnoi?

+

A community in western Rajasthan known for protecting trees and wildlife as part of their faith.

Can I combine this with the forts?

+

Yes. The route passes Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, so you see the forts and palaces too.

What is the best time to go?

+

October to March is the most comfortable. April to June is very hot, and the monsoon turns the villages green.

Is the driving between cities tiring?

+

Rajasthan is big, so some days involve four to six hours on the road. We keep the longest legs to one a day, build in stops at places worth stopping, and use a luxury air-conditioned car with a driver who knows the roads. The route table on this page shows every leg.

Do you recommend elephant rides at Amber Fort?

+

No. We do not include elephant rides. You go up to Amber Fort by jeep or on foot, and your guide takes you through the palace at a calm pace.
